Jehovah's Witnesses and other Christians: The Hebrew word "nephesh" hasn't changed. Why the difference?

I use a KJV and it is nephesh. The first place it is used is Gen 1:20. Why is it changed in different versions? I don't know, maybe there's money to be made by publishing new versions of the bible, and man is greedy.
