We we continue dumping billions down the black hole of corn ethanol if Iowa was not first to hold caucuses?
I work for the biggest ethanol producer in the world. I can't defend the subsidies, however, get some facts straight. The corn you eat is not the corn used for ethanol. Next, cattle primarily eat corn by-products that are created during high fructose corn syrup, corn oil, ethanol production. Cattle are only finished off on corn if they eat it at all. Yes, it burns more energy than it creates. But ethanol is not crude oil so if you want independence from the Middle East, it is something to consider. Our plant uses coal to generate almost all our own electricity. The farm lobby is huge, I think that has more to do with it than Iowa having the first caucus.
