The meaning behind "Knife Party" by the Deftones off the album "White Pony"?

I thought I remembered reading an article about how while writing/ recording this album Chino and the gang would get really high and pick a room in the house they had rented to make the record. They then would somehow loosely attach steak knives to the blade of the ceiling fan (scotch tape or something) and turn it on high while killing the lights. Like some sort of sadistic russian roulette. I know this sounds rediculous but I distinctly remember reading this and have heard more than one person talking about it. Can anybody lend creedence to this suggestion and/or give any other possibilities?
